8/25/09, Battle Creek, MI - After moving through Battle Creek, we’re now comfortably camped a few miles south of town.
The lads each got an extra flake of alfalfa this morning after their oats. Between the grain and the alfalfa they were right full of vigor for the next hour or so. In the future, i think I’ll just give them their oats and forget the morning hay - they were a real handful.
This morning we crossed through Battle Creek and the boys got a chance to be petted by a whole bunch of inner city kids. For many I’m sure this was the first time they have seen a horse. It was a lot of fun.
All day long people were stopping to chat and ask about the trip. When I went through here a few weeks ago, we were featured in the local newspaper and a lot of folks had read the article.
While stopped for lunch, the young lady in the picture to the right got a chance to sit on Bill while he took his lunchtime nap. The team is getting real good at meeting the public, and today personally greeted and left smiles on the faces of over a hundred people - not bad for a couple of old farm horses!
Tonight we have some really fantastic hosts and the lads are on several acres of good graze. All in all this was a really great day; perfect weather, friendly people and nice travel. Tomorrow, were continuing southward on the road to Indiana.
