10/28/08 - West Springfield, PA - I started off the day in the Walmart Parking lot thinking - this was a pretty rotten camping spot. But beggars can’t be choosers. I need a spot and in a pinch it worked. I spent about an hour closing in the front of the wagon with some clear plastic shower curtains I bought. They worked great until the wind got up to about 30 - 40 mph this afternoon. The plastic stretched a little and I have to modify the lower tie downs some. I also fired up my propane heater and put it up front. I had to use 1 pound gas bottles this morning, but before noon I stopped at a hardware store and got the fittings and regulator I needed to run it off a 20 pound gas can. It works pretty good and when it’s on, I’m pretty comfortable up front.
The team and I put in a long day. The weather wasn’t too bad until about 3 pm, then it started going from bad to worse. All day long people were stopping to wish us well and drop off small gifts - Thank you everyone.
I’m staying tonight at Ralph and Donna’s place. They are a really great couple who also have horses and have set us up really nice. Ralph and Donna have invited me to stay with them tomorrow and take a rest day. With a terrible weather forecast, a great place to stay and seven straight days of travel behind us, it wasn’t hard for me to accept their invitation.
We’re currently just a few miles from the Ohio state line. The weather for the week following tomorrow is forecast to be good, so the team and I are looking to scoot the 100 miles or so to US Route 42 (southwest of Cleveland) where we plan on making the long anticipated sharp left turn!
