12/16/09, Aquilla, MO - Today was a short drive, with a pleasant, early stop.
After doing some morning chores, it was about 9:15 am before we pulled out of camp.
I had Doc and Bob hitched up today and they were plodding along. I think this was a message that they were do for some time off.
At noon, we stopped in a field, owned by the Bootheel Angus Farm. Just before I hitched up, Jim Henley, the owner, showed up and invited us to his farm for the evening. Taking a cue from the horses, I decided everyone could use an afternoon off.
After turning the team out on some grass, Denise and I managed to spend some time relaxing. We dipped our fishing lines in the local pond, but the water temperature must have been too cold and the fish weren’t biting. It was still nice to toss a line out in the water.
Later that day, Jim’s son, Joe, invited us over to his place to feed his goats. Denise had a nice time mingling with the goats and catching a couple of kids.
In the evening, we were invited over to the Henley household for a dinner party with some friends. It was a nice relaxing time with some great people and food.
In the morning, I have to tack some new shoes on Doc before we take off. This has been a great 1/2 day off.
