8/16/09 - Riverdale, MI - Today marks the one year anniversary of my departure from home in New Hampshire.
To sum up the experience in one word, I can only say - “WOW!” In the past twelve months, I’ve experienced a lifetime of sensations. It has been a time of deep emotions, friendships, adventure, hardships, adversity, despair, triumph, humor, struggle, and glee. Shakespeare never wrote a play that more completely delved into the comedy and tragedy of human existence. Through it all, the most memorable moments are the children’s smiles and the warmth of all the people I’ve met.
We’ve traveled over 2,500 miles in ten states. Last year, we were off to a late start and Old Man Winter was nipping at our heals the whole way west and south. Sometimes winter actually caught up with us and we felt his snowfalls and frigid cold. By the time we reached Mississippi in February, spring was finally beginning to put in it’s first appearance. Then on February 10, 2009 we were virtually wiped out by a tractor trailer on US Highway 45.
It took four months to physically recover enough to resume the journey. A man counts his friends by those that lend a hand and their moral support during times of trouble. I can tell you that I’m blessed by having thousands of good friends, many of whom I have never met. Thanks to their outstanding help, we are once more on the road and bringing smiles to people’s faces (and frowns on the faces of some of the Yuppee motorist - but that don’t matter much.)
Tonight we are once again at Tim and Dawn’s place in Riverdale. MI. Following is a photo essay of the past year.
