10/14/08 - Caledonia, NY - After having breakfast with my host in Lima, NY, I harnessed up and hit the road. It was a beautiful morning and the scenery was fantastic. At one point, I passed a pond with two or three thousand geese gathering for the flight south.
In the town of Avon, I was approached by the principal of the St. Agnes elementary school who asked if he could bring some kids out to meet the horses. I spent a few minutes chatting with the children and they had an opportunity to feed the team some carrots. This is always are very rewarding part of my journey.
I stopped to eat lunch on the west side of the town of Avon. During lunch I met up with Jecoliah Ellis (a reporter for WROC, Fox Channel 8 in Rochester). Jecoliah and her cameraman spent about an hour on the interview. I’ve included a link to the story in the Media Coverage section.
After lunch, a reporter for the Livingston County newspaper rode along for a bit while he did an interview.
A few miles farther to the west, I met up with Dave Ayers. Dave is a Halflinger breeder who has run a champion six horse hitch for several years. I took a three mile detour to the north of route 20 to visit Dave’s farm and also take a day off for the horses and myself. Dave has the horses and I set up like kings.
This was definitely a banner day!
